Addiction – The House of Mirrors

Mar 11

Have you ever been in a house of mirrors?  Like those you find at a carnival?  That is what living in addiction is like—being lost in a place full of lies, deception and games, clouding the mind with no truth to be found.  That is how I describe the lifestyle of sex and porn addiction that was once a part of my life.  Obviously, I did not see it that way at the time. Nobody does.  But now that I am free and looking back, I see the illusions I lived in.  As freedom has been gained, clarity of mind has returned.

An important key I found to breaking free and staying free is to surround myself with those who are clear-headed and strong in good character—people who conduct their lives with wisdom and truth.  They provide a strong influence in my life and are also a place of accountability for me. If you are in addiction, yet fighting for freedom, surround yourself with those who challenge you to live with integrity and who will speak truth to you.

Truth is needed to shatter lies and break deception. This is a process.  If you are taking steps to find freedom, get close to truth in any way you can.  The most reliable place for finding truth is in the Bible–the Word of God.  It is the basis for all truth. The Bible is truth.  And, again, find people who are going to reinforce truth in your life. Spend time with them, learn from them.  Also, spend time with Father God. He is never too busy. His schedule is always open for you, He welcomes you. If you have never spent time talking with Him, you might want to try it. I think you will find it a most rewarding experience!

The Bible tells us in John 8:32 “and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (NASB).

It is time to put the life of addiction behind you—break the life of deception—shatter the house of mirrors.  As you pursue truth, you will find freedom.

What an amazing story of the power of Jesus Christ. You are an awesome writer. I was very touched by your story. I was healed of alcohol and drug addiction in 1983. At the time, I used AA and almost became an addict of that (not really knowing what was happening). In 1996 I went to a church service and heard John Maxwell talk about 2Cor. 5:17 and my life was changed forever. I’m so happy we have Jesus to heal us and we don’t have to use “programs”. God bless you for sharing

Thank you for stopping by, Terri. Thank the Lord for His victory in our lives! The Lord can use many avenues for our healing… the key is that Jesus is the focus and foundation and the One who truly brings the healing. It is in Him we trust.
