It’s Valentine’s Day! Many people have love on their mind. What is true love?
We often use the word “love” to mean many different things in our culture today. But God defines authentic love clearly in His Word, the Bible.
True love gives… The Bible tells us, “…This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.” (1 John 4:8b-10,The Message)
Another beautiful scripture in the Bible that is very descriptive of true love says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8, New International Version)
1 John 4:8 tells us God is love. He does not only love, as a verb, but He is love! God’s very essence is love.
God’s love is very personal. He pursues each one of us for a very personal relationship with Himself.
I hope as you celebrate Valentine’s Day this year you will consider what authentic love truly is, and that you will take some time to celebrate His love for you!
