Key to Living Free – Having a Willing Heart
Are you willing to be free? For some it is willingness to be free from habits and addiction, others it is freedom from fear or any number of things that cause you to be distracted and hindered from experiencing the abundant life that Jesus desires for you (John 10:10). As miserable as we may get at times due to these hindrances, it takes an act of our will, a willing heart, in order for us to gain true freedom.
You can know other keys and read about them, and in your mind you may give mental accent to their truth. But until you engage the key of willingness, there will not be much forward movement toward freedom.
Most often there are stages to a willing heart. Some of you may start with only a tiny bit of willingness; be patient with yourself as you grow in your journey toward a completely willing heart.
God gives us choices. But He also helps us to make the right choices when we look to Him for the strength each moment of the day. If you are one who vacillates between “Yes, I am willing to be free” and “I want to be free, but my sin gives me pleasure and I don’t want to give it up” – please don’t despair and don’t give up! There is hope!
Start with asking God to take the little bit of willingness you have, and give you a completely willing heart. I know He will answer your prayer. Matthew 7:7-8 tells us “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” God will hear you and answer you.
If you are struggling and think you are too far gone for help, read my personal story in the next blog post of how I faced my lack of willingness, and how God did a work in my heart and brought me to a place of having a completely willing heart.
